Author: Paul Hunt, Former UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health

India cover

The Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health visited India in late 2007 to examine maternal mortality through the lens of the right to health. This report, issued in April 2010, pays special attention to maternal mortality in Rajasthan and Maharashtra, but its analysis and recommendations are relevant to all states in India. They are also relevant to countries in every region of the world.

The report focuses on two main themes: (a) the health workforce and (b) accountability. For further related reading, including a valuable right-to-health approach to maternal mortality, please also read the supplementary note.
