Joint Statement on Maternal Mortality

In this joint statement delivered to the UN Human Rights Council, 85 governments acknowledged maternal mortality as a human rights issue. The statement represents one of the largest joint intergovernmental statements delivered to the Council, and the first to address maternal mortality and human rights.

IIMMHR has been working in collaboration with other civil society groups  to advocate for a Human Rights Council resolution on maternal mortality. For example, we participated in the Council's first-ever thematic panel on maternal mortality in June 2008, and in a follow-up panel at the Council one year later.
